Free School Meals

Free School Meals – Oak Hill First School

At Oak Hill First School, we want to ensure that every child has access to a healthy meal each day. Families may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) depending on their circumstances.

Important Update (from September 2026)

Free School Meals are changing across Worcestershire. Existing eligibility protections will end over summer 2026, and all families may need to be reassessed.

If you currently receive free school meals:

  • Your eligibility may be checked again
  • You will be contacted by email or through school
  • Some families may need to reapply

Types of Free School Meals

From September 2026, there are three types of Free School Meals:

1. Expanded Free School Meals

  • Provides term-time meals only
  • Available if you:
  • Receive Universal Credit
  • Have a household income over £7,400 per year

2. Targeted Free School Meals

Provides additional support including:

  • Free meals during term time
  • Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) support
  • Possible travel assistance
  • Extra funding for school (Pupil Premium)

You may qualify if you receive:

  • Universal Credit with income below £7,400 per year
  • Income-based benefits or Pension Credit
  • Support under immigration or asylum arrangements

Some families with specific immigration circumstances may also be eligible (income thresholds apply).

3. Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM)

  • Applies to all children in:
    • Reception
    • Year 1
    • Year 2
  • No application needed – meals are provided automatically
  • Covers term time meals only

How to Apply

Most families will need to apply online through Worcestershire County Council.

If you need support with the application, please contact the school office—we are happy to help.

Why Apply?

Even if your child already receives free meals (e.g. in Reception–Year 2), applying could mean:
